The Virtual University Sialkot campuses have successfully conducted Orientation Classes and Computer Lab Sessions for the Fall 2023 Admissions. Because of the large number of applications, we spread Orientation classes over 2 to 3 days and that also in morning and evening sessions to not only accommodate admitted students but also those whose admissions are still under process (basically to overcome time limitations and to enable start of classes as per schedule). Over 450 students attended our Orientation classes and lab training arranged between 10th to 12th of October, 2023.
The primary objectives of the orientation were as follows:
Familiarization with VU's Online Education System
Overview of University Life and Academic Rules.
Empowering Successful Online Learning
The CEO of Virtual University Sialkot Campus, in his welcome address, congratulated the students on their decision to join Virtual University, emphasizing its role as the future of online education. He also introduced them to contemporary trends in education, such as online courses offered by prestigious universities like MIT and Stanford through platforms like MOOCs, Edx, and Coursera. Emerging technologies like the Internet of Things (IoT), Artificial Intelligence (AI), Hyper-realistic 3D Out-of-Home (OOH) Animation, and Holoportation were also highlighted.
The students were introduced to the Virtual University Learning Management System (VULMS) through live demonstrations. They were also given insights into VU001-Introduction to e-Learning courses, VU CPL (Computer Proficiency License). They also got hands-on experience with communication tools like Zoom, Google Meet, Skype, Team Viewer, and Adobe Connect. The students were shown glimpses of the recent Integration Camp organized by VU, which left them impressed and excited.
The CEO also shared personal experiences, exciting stories, and videos to instigate students' passion for learning, innovation, and curiosity. As a special feature, students were given a live demonstration of ChatGPT, which sparked significant interest and enthusiasm. They were informed that Virtual University plans to introduce more modern courses in line with market demand, including Artificial Intelligence and cyber security. He emphasized that our youth needs to unleash their potential by learning these technologies and encouraged students to adopt the mindset of "LEARN, UNLEARN & RELEARN" to stay at the forefront in the 21st century.
Furthermore, on the first day of classes, students also participated in an extended orientation session conducted by the designated faculty member of Virtual University. We must admit that Orientation conducted by Mr. Tayyab Waqar was of quality and informative for the students.
